About DCI

John entered the mortgage industry in 2001, working for a mortgage broker in Monterey County and later with a mortgage banker in Silicon Valley originating traditional loans. In 2007, John began originating private loans in addition to conventional and government loans. John later launched DCI during the recession of the late 2000s, focusing on private loan origination and trust deed investments. Starting in 2010, John brought traditional and non-bank lending back to DCI.

Mission

Our mission is to help individuals, families, and businesses achieve their real estate goals by providing and combining traditional and alternative lending strategies. We understand that property acquisitions are vital to fulfilling life goals, offering options for lifestyle, career, and retirement. Our passion lies in supporting clients through careful planning and collaboration with their advisors, ensuring access to the best loan options and navigating the challenges posed by economic and market trends. We've successfully helped many borrowers realize their real estate dreams, and we are committed to helping others do the same.

History

Following the 2008 mortgage industry collapse, John transitioned from arranging traditional home loans to establishing a successful private lending operation, helping borrowers who faced hardship and needed alternative financing to avoid foreclosure. As traditional lending resumed in 2010, John brokered government-backed and insured loans, like HARP and FHA programs, to refinance clients from private loans into more affordable options. By 2012, private mortgage insurance and Alt-A loans reemerged, allowing John to help self-employed borrowers and small business owners obtain long-term, lower-rate loans. The commercial lending landscape also improved, with increased risk tolerance from banks, REITs, and Wall Street lenders, enabling John to secure favorable financing for commercial property owners and investors.

Community

Many businesses, developers, and real estate advocates rely on community organizations, like Chambers of Commerce and Builders Exchange, for resources and support in their projects. These organizations also promote educational events on homeownership and finance. We actively network with these groups to provide tailored lending solutions, such as low-down payment options for first-time buyers, flexible loans for business owners, and non-bank construction loans for developers. While traditional banking routes are available, many need alternative solutions to succeed. DCI offers expert real estate and mortgage planning to help families, businesses, and developers thrive in a competitive market.

Banker vs. Broker

DCI Mortgage works as both a banker and broker. As a Mortgage Broker, we provide options and flexibility that align with your goals and financial situation. If more control over the loan process will benefit the timing and ease of your transaction, we will fund your loan in-house as a Mortgage Banker.
